As you can well imagine, I’ve been shocked and dismayed by the horrific devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Haiti. Many of my blogger friends have started fundraising drives and making donations to various charities. In the past, my family and I have always contributed something to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund when there has been a major natural disaster. However, I just got some news today. I’m not allowed to name the company where I work in my blog, but we were told that our company will be matching, dollar for dollar, all donations made to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help with Haiti relief efforts.
So rather than just making a simple donation, I’m going to lay out a challenge. Please help me put together a donation for Haiti relief. Every penny I give will be matched, making the contribution go farther!
Here’s ways you can help, between now and month-end:
- Buy something! From now through the end of the month, any revenue I receive from links clicked on my site for Dragon Door, Eat Stop Eat, Turbulence Training, or Amazon will be donated to the Red Cross.
- Subscribe! Right now I have 68 people subscribed in a reader. For every new subscriber, I’ll donate $0.50 to the Red Cross.
- Sign up for emails! I have 20 people signed up to receive my posts in a daily email. For every new email subscriber that CONFIRMS their signup, I will donate $1.00 to the Red Cross. (Remember that I’ll also send you a free Turbulence Training workout if you subscribe to my email list.)
- Be a Fan! I have 58 Facebook Fans currently for Looking Good (for a mom). Become a fan of my facebook page and I will donate $0.50 to the Red Cross.
- Comment! For each new, relevant comment on a post (not spam or empty/”please donate” comments), I will donate $0.25 to the Red Cross.
I’m ready to donate up to $250 of my own cash, if people respond enough for me to do so. After it’s matched by my company, that would be $500 going to help the people of Haiti, via the American Red Cross. So please help me help them. Also – my husband and I have discussed this and he agreed that if the response takes our donation above the maximum I’ve set, he’s willing to discuss increasing our donation!

Thank you for what you are doing and adding your post to the Link Widget on Bloganthropy. Please feel free to add to our facebook page as well. And if you want to tell others about the Link Widget, that would be great. My co-founder and I are donating $200 of our review blog (Mamanista) revenue, plus matching from one of our sponsors–for Bloganthropy facebook fans and pledges. We’re also helping that sponsor distribute up to $1500 matching as donation receipts come in.
We are hoping that this will help us grow a far-reaching and sustainable effort to encourage bloggers to volunteer and give and then share their efforts with their community. This way we can be there for Haiti not just now but in the future and also mobilize in support of other people in need.
Fantastic! I love that your company will match what you donate too. That is awesome. Great to meet and connect with you last week at Martha. Hope to see you soon. PS i’m working on my planks! xo colleen
Colleen, I really enjoyed meeting you. I can’t wait to hear how you are doing with your planks – let me know when you can do a full minute! (Hope you don’t mind but I edited out the company name in your comment.)
This is so nice of you!
It’s just a small gesture, but if we all do something small, we can accomplish great things, right?
