Weekend Roundup: What’s eating you?

Posted by Liz On May - 22 - 2010

As I flit around the internet, I often find myself moved or inspired by posts or articles I find.  Most of the time, I tweet about them on my twitter feed, and there it ends. But for you, my blog readers, you may not always see those tweets or have a chance to read those articles.  And every now and then (like now), I get my act together enough to actually put together a “round-up” post to share some of those amazing and inspiring articles I’ve found.  This week, I found one post that moved me so much that I just HAD to share it with you... CIMG1067When you’ve finally decided that it’s time to commit to losing weight, it can be difficult to know what you should do to get started. I’ve had many people come to me and ask how to start. In addition, when I look back at June 2008, I wish someone had told me some thing that would have made measuring my progress easier... Read More

Dealing with a crowded gym

Posted by Liz On January - 10 - 2010

busy_gymAround this time of year, many people make getting fit part of their New Years Resolutions. As a result, you’ll see a huge uptick in gym attendance. This is great from the perspective of people getting healthier, but if you’re one of those people who sticks with their fitness plan all year long, it can be frustrating to have all of these extra people descending upon “your gym” and taking up equipment during your normal workout time. And if you’re trying to do circuit training and/or supersets, where you go from exercise to exercise with little to no rest, the crowding can absolutely mess with the effectiveness of your workout... 5 Alternatives to Resolutions – that actually work!

Posted by Liz On January - 1 - 2010

2010It’s that time of year where many people resolve to fix everything that’s wrong with their lives. That’s right, it’s time for New Years Resolutions. Now a lot of people MAKE New Years Resolutions, but as we all know, far too many people fail to even make a decent attempt to keep any of their resolutions. Why? Well, the whole idea of resolutions – making a 180 degree shift in the way you live your life in a single day – is absolutely flawed.  I’ve never made resolutions, but I have made meaningful changes in my life. So I’m going to share five alternatives to resolutions that actually work and can help you have the life you want in 2010... Read More

What can a Transformation Contest do for you?

Posted by Liz On December - 31 - 2009

TurbulenceT3_FlatEver wonder what it will take to get you off the couch and into shape?  How about a deadline, accountability, and a gameplan?  Well, a transformation contest can provide all of these things, and help you achieve your goals.  A few weeks ago, the 6th Turbulence Training transformation contest concluded. This was a great contest because anyone at all who completed it was given a 6-month membership to the Turbulence Training site. The bonus brought in a lot of new people, and a huge amount of seasoned veterans who needed to prove that they could get in peak physical condition... Read More

A personal update – Dec 2009 edition

Posted by Liz On December - 29 - 2009

clothing_shoppingWell, it happened. I turned 35 yesterday. As is my tradition, I took the day off of work and went shopping for clothes. This was a particularly important task given my weight loss. I used to have a pretty robust wardrobe, but all of those items are now too large for me. I did some shopping last year, but really needed at least a few more purchases to round back out my work wardrobe. It was great to be trying on clothes without getting frustrated about everything making me look fat. And, I came home with quite a lot of great things!.. Read More

I don’t do round-up posts as often as I’d like, but as we’ve reached the end of another month, I thought it was about time I put another one together. So here are some of my favorite (and timely) posts of the past few weeks:.. Read More

How to avoid Halloween candy nightmares

Posted by Liz On October - 30 - 2009

halloween_candyIt’s one of the scariest times of year…no, not because of the ghosts and the goblins…because of the Twix and the Reese’s peanut butter cups, of course! Yes, it’s nearly Halloween, and where there’s Halloween, there’s candy. And where there’s candy, there’s (usually) a tendency to overindulge. Last year, I was sucked into the vortex that is created by having my favorite candy in the house. I was tempted again at Easter (see “Escaping from a cycle of bad eating“). This year I’m determined to avoid it, and I’m going to share five strategies I am going to use, in hopes that they will help you do the same... Read More

About Me

For many years, I was a typical American working mom, relying on takeout to get me through the busy evenings, and thinking about exercise but too exhausted to find the time. I ballooned from a size six to nearly a size 10 in under a year. I was fat, and I decided I was fed up. My transformation from then to now inspired friends and encouraged me to start this blog. I want other moms to know they don’t need to be satisfied with just “Looking Good (for a mom),” but that they two can make meaningful changes in their lives, health, and fitness.
