7-Minute Weight Loss Circuit

Posted by Liz On June - 2 - 2009

I recently read a summary of a very interesting study regarding energy level and quality of life in women. In the study, healthy sedentary women (average age around 57) were put into one of four groups. Three groups did exercise at varying levels of intensity, from light exercise (The amount of time spent exercising ranged from just over one hour weekly in the light intensity group to three hours weekly in the high intensity group.) The fourth group was a control group – they didn’t begin an exercise program... Read More

Well, it’s Tuesday morning. Perhaps you’re now looking back over your Memorial Day holiday and regretting your excesses…fatty food, sweets, and alcohol. Instead of spending hours in the gym trying to undo the damage in one mega-workout (a fruitless pursuit), why not commit to a lifestyle change that will help you look and feel more slender, more muscular, and healthier?.. Training with Kettlebells. Is it for you?

Posted by Liz On May - 24 - 2009

I know I’ve mentioned before that I train with kettlebells. When I mention this to people, most people say, “kettle what?” So while kettlebells have been catching on lately, they are still unknown to many people. Let me tell you a little about kettlebells so that you can decide if you might benefit from training with them... Read More

Who’s afraid of a little muscle?

Posted by Liz On May - 19 - 2009

Now that I’ve whittled myself down to a mere 110 pounds, I’ve decided that it’s time to focus on increasing my muscle mass. This requires a whole different mindset from me, including increasing the amount of calories I eat (while still eating “clean”), increasing rest during my weightlifting sessions, and dropping most of my cardio from my workouts. It’s an interesting experience, and I hope that it will be successful for me... Read More

How to fit it all in

Posted by Liz On March - 30 - 2009

Someone asked me recently, “as a busy mom who works outside the home, how do you fit it all in?” Meaning, how do I find time to exercise, of course! So I thought I’d devote a blog post to this topic... Read More

Secrets to great abs (hint – it’s not sit-ups)

Posted by Liz On March - 28 - 2009

Just about everyone I see at the gym spends at least some of their workout doing some type of sit-up or crunch. Now I’ve been going to this gym for five months, and I see the same people regularly. What I can tell you is that the same people I see doing sit-ups every week still have the same flabby midsections they had five months ago. Maybe you’ve experienced the same thing – sit-up after sit-up, crunch after crunch, and still you don’t have a toned midsection... Read More

About Me

For many years, I was a typical American working mom, relying on takeout to get me through the busy evenings, and thinking about exercise but too exhausted to find the time. I ballooned from a size six to nearly a size 10 in under a year. I was fat, and I decided I was fed up. My transformation from then to now inspired friends and encouraged me to start this blog. I want other moms to know they don’t need to be satisfied with just “Looking Good (for a mom),” but that they two can make meaningful changes in their lives, health, and fitness.
