IMG_6065In researching eating healthier, there’s lots of advice to consider: eat organic, eat whole foods, eat low-carb. It can certainly get confusing! With all of that conflicting information out there, it can be hard to know what to do. But the best advice I’ve heard is to eat local. Food is most nutritious when it’s just picked, and getting it local assures you of getting the freshest possible food.  While farmer’s markets provide good access to local farm produce, an even better way to get fresh local food each week is to join a C.S.A... (community supported agriculture).  We started off on the wait list for one of the local farms, but I was excited to receive an email two weeks ago offering us a share of this summer’s fruits and veggies! IMG_6048Well, it’s Tuesday again, and that means there’s another new food to try! We’ve been doing fruits each week, which has appealed well to my 7 year-old, but I’ve still been unsuccessful getting my carnivore 4 year-old to partake in our weekly experiment.  So this time I scoured the grocery store, looking for a new whole food that would appeal to my son’s palate.  On my third trip to my store’s organic section, I found it: Fair Trade Coral Red Jasmine Rice. For many years, I was a typical American working mom, relying on takeout to get me through the busy evenings, and thinking about exercise but too exhausted to find the time. I ballooned from a size six to nearly a size 10 in under a year. I was fat, and I decided I was fed up. My transformation from then to now inspired friends and encouraged me to start this blog. I want other moms to know they don’t need to be satisfied with just “Looking Good (for a mom),” but that they two can make meaningful changes in their lives, health, and fitness.
