It happens to the best of us

cakeI’m one of those people for whom eating sweets and sugar doesn’t satisfy a craving, but actually creates one.  I know I’m not alone.  Many other women deal with the same issues. The problem is that if you have a sweet treat one day, you’re more likely to have one the next day, and the next day, and…well, you get the idea.  And it’s confession time: it’s been happening to me! My daughter had her birthday, and we had an ice cream cake. I ate some of that.  Then my husband made some chocolate chip cookies. I ate one on two separate days.  Then my daughter baked a cake with her babysitter on her afternoon off from school.  I broke off a small piece today and ate it…and that’s when I realized I needed to come clean. You see, I don’t even LIKE cake!.. Read More

I get a “girl gang” together

Posted by Liz On January - 23 - 2010

When you’re a blogger, you meet so many other amazing people in the blogging community.  One such person I’ve met is Josh Hanagarne, of Worlds Strongest Librarian. What caused me to start reading Josh’s blog was that he’s a Russian Kettlebell Challenge instructor (RKC).  What KEPT me reading his blog was that he’s brilliant, funny, and candid in a way that so many other people refuse to be. If you haven’t stopped by and read his blog before, here’s a perfect excuse to start: Josh is featuring a guest post from me today!.. Read More

Help LGM Support Haiti Relief

Posted by Liz On January - 16 - 2010

haiti-disasterAs you can well imagine, I’ve been shocked and dismayed by the horrific devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Haiti.  Many of my blogger friends have started fundraising drives and making donations to various charities. In the past, my family and I have always contributed something to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund when there has been a major natural disaster.  However, I just got some news today. I’m not allowed to name the company where I work in my blog, but we were told that our company will be matching, dollar for dollar, all donations made to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help with Haiti relief efforts... My Day at Martha Stewart’s Show

Posted by Liz On January - 16 - 2010

IMG_5606As you know from my post Of Martha, Blogging, and NYC, I traveled up to New York City earlier this week to be in the studio audience for the taping of The Martha Stewart Show along with a number of other bloggers (many of them from right here in the Philly area). The show’s theme was blogging, and we were all supposed to be blogging live from the audience.  I actually decided against bringing my laptop, as I’m simply too verbose to write the kind of post I’d like to write from my iPhone in just an hour (along with many mandatory clapping breaks), so I hope you don’t mind that it’s taken me a day to regroup and get this post up. I really want to share my experiences going to New York, seeing Martha live, and spending a day away from my home and normal routine.  Of course, I’ll share tidbits of how I tried to stay healthy along the way! (And even for me, this post is pretty lengthy…epic even!).. Read More

Of Martha, Blogging, and NYC

Posted by Liz On January - 13 - 2010

It’s an exciting day for me! I’m on my way to New York City for my first blogging-related trip. On Thursday, Martha Stewart is having a show that’s all about blogging, and I’m one of the many bloggers who was approved to blog right from the audience during the taping of the show!.. Read More

I’m giving away free workouts!

Posted by Liz On January - 11 - 2010

My friend Kelly is celebrating the one-year “blogiversary” over at The Centsible Life, a site where she blogs about frugal finances, family living, and paying down your debt. She has over $600 in prizes you can win, including a prize I’ve sponsored – your choice of one of three fat-blasting Turbulence Training workouts, valued at $9.95... Read More

Dealing with a crowded gym

Posted by Liz On January - 10 - 2010

busy_gymAround this time of year, many people make getting fit part of their New Years Resolutions. As a result, you’ll see a huge uptick in gym attendance. This is great from the perspective of people getting healthier, but if you’re one of those people who sticks with their fitness plan all year long, it can be frustrating to have all of these extra people descending upon “your gym” and taking up equipment during your normal workout time. And if you’re trying to do circuit training and/or supersets, where you go from exercise to exercise with little to no rest, the crowding can absolutely mess with the effectiveness of your workout... The Female Body Breakthrough – A Review

Posted by Liz On January - 2 - 2010

female-body-breakthrough-coverI’ve been following Rachel Cosgrove on Twitter and reading her blog for a while now. Of course, I’ve heard about the amazing gym she and her husband run together, and know many fitness gurus really respect her professional expertise. If you’ve seen pictures of Rachel, then you know that she’s a lovely and fit woman.  And often, when you see someone in great shape, it’s almost instinctive to assume that it’s just easier for them to stay fit than it is for everyone else. I have to admit, I assumed that about Rachel. I knew from reading her blog that she struggled with the same body image issues that all women do.  But when I read her new book, The Female Body Breakthrough, I was shocked to learn that Rachel had gone through periods of being significantly overweight, and even struggled with an eating disorder... 5 Alternatives to Resolutions – that actually work!

Posted by Liz On January - 1 - 2010

2010It’s that time of year where many people resolve to fix everything that’s wrong with their lives. That’s right, it’s time for New Years Resolutions. Now a lot of people MAKE New Years Resolutions, but as we all know, far too many people fail to even make a decent attempt to keep any of their resolutions. Why? Well, the whole idea of resolutions – making a 180 degree shift in the way you live your life in a single day – is absolutely flawed.  I’ve never made resolutions, but I have made meaningful changes in my life. So I’m going to share five alternatives to resolutions that actually work and can help you have the life you want in 2010... Read More

About Me

For many years, I was a typical American working mom, relying on takeout to get me through the busy evenings, and thinking about exercise but too exhausted to find the time. I ballooned from a size six to nearly a size 10 in under a year. I was fat, and I decided I was fed up. My transformation from then to now inspired friends and encouraged me to start this blog. I want other moms to know they don’t need to be satisfied with just “Looking Good (for a mom),” but that they two can make meaningful changes in their lives, health, and fitness.
